Professional Technical Translation Company
Translation of technical documents is vital for engineering firms, IT companies, manufacturers of equipment or chemicals, project contractors or any organization that has technical services. We translate technical manuals, user guides, security reports, tender documents, technical catalogues, engineering specifications, e-learning materials, and software APIs into multilingual versions for enterprises expanding their overseas markets or learning from global resources. They think of us as an excellent and professional English translator over the years.
Why Choose Us
The accuracy, efficiency and overall quality of the technical translation are paramount. When selecting a professional translation service, you should consider language companies’ industry expertise first.
Those questions are useful in finding technically skilled translators:
- How long have they translated technical texts?
- What areas are they good at?
- Who are the principal translators?
- Do they have any clear assessments of the customers?
For over 16 years, Jinyu has always been a hard worker in technical translation. We are qualified in the translation of technical manuals, user guides, MSDS, software localization and engineering specifications. Strengthened by a large team of more than 30 technical experts, our translation services were regarded by our customers or foreign partners as “superb” or “knowledgeable”.
For technical documents, we know the strengths and weaknesses of human and machine translations, so we use them technically.
For the most fundamental level, our human specialists do a great job. They are not only linguists but also electronic engineers, material scientists, physicists, chemists and software developers. Their wisdom makes your translation look professional and natural in any language. Most importantly, our refined recruitment system always enables us to choose the best of them as our workforce.
We also use the machine. Human beings make mistakes with numbers, words, glossaries or even typos. Our cloud-based automated translation program corrects those glitches. Terminology bases and repositories of translation memories are added to improve data precision and continuity. Finally, project managers will proofread your document, examining styles and claiming responsibility for the quality of the translation.
You do not need to transfer the formats before sending the files to us. We can open and translate them directly in Word, Excel, Adobe Reader, Sublime Text, Navicat, PowerShell, Photoshop, InDesign, AutoCAD or Illustrator. When you get them from us, all you should do is replace them with the original file. No error will be thrown out.
For example, some technical parameters are embedded in XML, JSON, or SQL. These documents are configurations or dependencies from an application, a bigger file, or a system. It is stupid or dangerous to change their forms or data structures just for a translation. Now, with the help of Jinyu, you are free to do anything for the file format because we know those documents thoroughly, and we can translate them easily into your ideal result.
Best Technical Writing Translation
1. Translation of Technical Manuals
Technical manuals are materials exchanged within the industry. The translation of technical manuals has higher requirements for the translators’ research ability. Meanwhile, the translation quality standards of different countries make similar and clear requirements for translators’ capabilities of language, culture, knowledge, cognition, and skills. Jinyu translates more than 2,000 technical manuals each year in compliance with all customers’ standards.
When translating technical manuals with CAT tools such as SDL Trados Studio, we often conduct case studies at the level of vocabulary translation and fixed expressions, like “DT 8-pin (数据终端八脚接头)”, “PLS (负敏感电压)”, or “PP (压力端口)”. At the same time, while translating long and complicated sentences, our translator splits and integrates the sentences and adjusts the structure and order of the original text to translate better.
2. Translation of user guides
The purpose of the user manual is to fully and accurately introduce the product name, nature, performance, specifications, principles, structure, method of use, maintenance, precautions, etc. The professional knowledge and theories involved involve the general characteristics of technical texts. Compared with non-technical English, it has the outstanding features of strong professional terminology, many nouns, and extensive use of passive voice and imperative sentences.
Taking the translation of an automobile operator’s manual as an example, our language specialists process the document both at lexical and sentential levels. For lexical translation examples, here are some: “SRS (辅助约束系统)”, “OCS (乘员分类系统)”, “ESP (电子稳定程序系统)”, “NECK-PRO (碰撞响应式头枕)”, “modify (改装)”, “additional protection (辅助保护)”.
For sentential translation examples:
Damaged seat belts or seat belts that have been subjected to stress in an accident must be replaced, and their anchoring points must also be checked.
3. Translation of MSDS
MSDS is a legal document that chemical manufacturers or importers must publish to users (consumers) or the public. In this document, manufacturers and importers must elaborate on the physical and chemical properties of the chemical (e.g. whether it is flammable or explosive, provide flammability, flash point value, pH value, reactivity, etc.). More information related to the health of users (such as carcinogenic, teratogenic, chronic diseases, life-long diseases, etc.) and environmental pollution issues shall be included in an MSDS also.
Translators should be familiar with chemistry to translate MSDS documents, as many chemical names or common names are translated from chemical Formulas directly. For example, the formula “FeSO4.7H2O” is translated as the Chinese term “七水硫酸亚铁” or trade name “绿矾”. However, the translation of MSDS terms can be flexible. For example, the word “color” has several equivalent Chinese versions such as “色度”, “颜色”, “色泽”. Therefore, the translation of the word in the target texts should depend on the context.
4. Translation/Localization of Software
Engineering specifications mainly discuss some specifications of reinforcement in the construction process. Those specifications cover concrete engineering-related work in the construction process, materials and concrete mix ratio, design planning, and construction requirements. Specifications of different industries give guidance or principles for engineering, management, or project assessment.
There are three things to consider when translating engineering specifications: intra-lingual coherence, Inter-lingual coherence, and the principle of purpose. Engineering specifications are industry specifications and technical guidelines formulated or recognized and enforced by the state. Therefore, the language selection and expressions translation must conform to the solemn and non-emotional tone of the project specifications.
Here are some Chinese translation examples of engineering specifications from Jinyu projects:
Provide all cast-in-place concrete, complete and in place, as required by the work specified herein on the drawing and specifications.
One or more results in forty are less than 85% CCS.
The content of software localization translation includes the user interface, online help, user manual, marketing materials, e-learning courseware, etc. The source files for software localized translation are rich media composed of text, images, audio, video, interactive materials, etc. In order to facilitate translators to translate rich media content, files must be technically processed during the preprocessing stage of localization to extract the information that needs to be translated and converted into textual form.
We use the technique of visual translation for software localization tasks. Visual translation means that translators can preview the content, format and layout of the translated software in real-time in the computer-assisted translation software. At the same time, the non-translated elements are filtered to the maximum during the translation process to ensure the text is translated as much as possible and clean to avoid all kinds of label symbols affecting the translation efficiency. Realize the effect of “What You Translated is What You Get, WYSIWYG” in the translation process.
